Help decyphering pattern

I’m working on a pattern from my new book Viking Patterns for Knitting. I worked through two repeats of the pattern last night and it just isn’t working right. Can someone decypher their cable patterns into “my” language? I thought I had them right, but my cables are just wrong somehow.

Cross 2 knit stitches over 2 knit stitches, to right
=? slip 2 st to cable needle hold to back K2, K2 from cable needle?

Cross 2 knit stitches over 2 knit stitches to left
=? slip 2 st to cable needle hold to front. K2, K2 from cable needle?

Cross 2 knit stitches over 2 purl stitches to right
=? slip 2 st to cable needle and hold to back. K2, P2 from cable needle?

Cross 2 knit stitches over 2 purl stitches to left
=? slip 2 st to cable needle and hold to front, K2, P2 from cable needle?

Somehow I think I have them wrong.

they look correct to me except the last one. I think that should be…

Hmm, let me go give that a try. I don’t like these instructions. It seems like everything should be held to the front, but I know that isn’t right.

OK, off to try the corrected instructions.
