Help deciphering pattern

The pattern say this:

Knit 22 sts and place on a holder. CO 2 sts and knit across the next 27 sts, CO 2 sts, working with another set of needles and on these 31 sts, work in sockinette for 22 rows.

I’m a bit confused. What’s on the new needles? Where?

And also, how do you CO while knitting?

Thanks :teehee:

you can use the backwards e/twisted loop cast on; the knit cast on; or the cable cast on. There are problably others I’m not recalling at the moment.

Hi I moved your question from the General forum to this forum for a better fit.

I usually use the backwards loop cast on

What are you knitting?

The new needles hold 31 sts-2 co, 27 existing stitches & 2 co.

Had a duh moment. Maybe they are mittens. That would make sense for the cast ons…

You don’t need new needles - the first 22 sts are on a holder, just co 2, work 27 and cast on another 2 and work only on these 31 sts. If there’s some other sts other than these, you can put them on a holder too.

This is for a baby sweater. So should I not use the new needles?

(Thanks for moving the thread here.)

You can use another needle if you want, it’s just that you don’t HAVE to.

Thanks! I’m done with that section now! It looks great!
