Help casting on in middle of project

I have started knitting again after a 20 year break. I am on a stash busting mission of making baby hats, mittens and sweaters for the local hospital. My question is I have a sweater pattern where I have to cast on 8 stitches at the beginning of a new row half way through the pattern. Would I just cast on the stitches then continue working the pattern.

I know that its a silly question but I just want to make sure I am working the pattern correctly.

Yes, patterns often do this. Put the needle with the sts in your left hand and use the knit or cable cast on, then just work those new sts along with the older ones.
