Help! Can someone help me repair a sweater?

I am a totally novice knitter.

I recently ordered a very expensive alpaca wool cable knit sweater for my Mom’s birthday. Unfortunately it was too small so I need to return it. It was in the box, ready to return when I noticed my cat poking at it. Seconds later it was on the floor, and to my horror a very long thread was sticking out of the box. The cat clawed at the sweater and pulled one, long thread.

Is this repairable? I don’t know that I’m good enough to do it myself… is there anyone in the Central Ohio area that might be interested in helping me out? Any advice?

This knitty article shows how to fix pulls and other sweater damage.

Thank you for the link. I read it, and unfortunately I’ve already tried what it recommends (it’s just a pull, not a tear or hole or break). Unfortunately the pattern is somewhat complicated and I can’t seem to figure out how or where to pull the thread back through. Maybe someone more “knit-savvy” would have better luck with it than me. I’ll try again, but in the meantime I’m hoping some generous soul lives near me!

Maybe somebody at your LYS can help you? Might cost a couple bucks…but that’s better than not being able to return the sweater!

Maybe you could post some pics?

ooh, I can do that! I’ll take some when I get home tonight. Thanks!
