I just knit up a little hat for my nephew in moss stitch: rows 1, 2: K1, P1;
rows 3, 4: P1, K1. That’s easy. Now I’m ready to do the 3 needle bind off. I’ve divided the stitches evenly on two needles; however, when they are “side-by-side” the stitches don’t match up with each other. I mean on one needle there is a knit stitch and on the other there is a purl stitch. How do I bind off? Do I just do a regular bind off and not worry about one stitch being a knit stitch and one being a purl stitch? Will this look funny? :??
I would appreciate your help here. I don’t want to do anything until I get all of your input.
I know what you’re saying Ingrid, but the first stitch on the “front” needle is a purl stitch and the corresponding stitch on the “back” needle is a knit stitch. So do I just do a regular knit bind off? I know moss stitch is a knit and then a purl, etc. but they don’t match up on the front and back needles. Does that make sense? :shrug:
I have an idea, though I don’t know how much you’ll like it. Here goes anyway… since you’re working in the round, doing another half-round should (I think) get to you to a place where you have knits matching with knits and purls matching with purls when you have the two needles next to each other. KWIM? Then instead of 3-needle b/o, you could use kitchener to graft the edges together. (Someone else was asking about that for rib earlier today so it’s fresh in my mind.) This would basiclly entail separating the knits and purls and doing one side at a time. I.e., you would kitchener the knits on the RS (outside) of the fabric first, then kitchener the knits on the WS (inside) of the fabric (these will be the stitches that looked like purls from the other side). I’ve not tested it myself, but I think it might actually work.
I forgot to say that the hat does not have any decreases ~ I casted on 78 stitches and still have the 78. It’s just like a square. It then has two pom poms at the corners. The stitches won’t match up. I guess I’ll just do a regular knit bind off. I don’t think anyone else will really notice unless they really study it. I’m just a perfectionist! I hope this makes more sense to all of you now. I should have mentioned it in my first post. Sorry! :oops:
Hmmmmm… I’m not sure. I’ll sit down and write it out and see what I can come up with. That may work. I’ll keep you posted. I’m off to see what I can do.
Thanks for your help! :notworthy:
On a side note, it is so HOT here today. It’s going to be near 100 ~ can you believe it! :hot:
I’d do the regular 3nbo. I think it will look find because as suzeeq pointed out, the knits of the bo really don’t show. You’ll have a nice straight seam and the two sides will snug up against each other.
