:XX: Hello, I am starting to knit again, I started to knit when I was 12 then picked it up again 7 years ago, it lasted for a while. I am trying to pick it up again, but forgot alot of stuff. I am looking for a knitting circle to chit chat and learn. I live in Granby Ma. Is there anybody out there.
Actually, Amy (the site creator/administrator/super knitter ) lives very close to you. And I believe there are several others in the Western Mass. area, too. (I attended college at Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, myself, but no longer live in the area.)
You live REALLY close to the Webs warehouse in Northampton! I’m sure you could find lots of inspiration, lots of other knitters, and lots of ways to empty your checking account there!
Welcome to KH! Definitely the place to be for knitting chit chat. Or chit chatting while knitting. Or knitting while chit chatting.
Hi and welcome! This place is awesome! I am still pretty new here but I wish I had known of this place when I first started to knit, it would have made things so much easier. Oh well, since being here I have gotten braver and am trying harder knitting patterns and it is great to know I can come here for help.
Welcome! :waving: You spell your name the same as me. (I’m also originally from Mass. but now I live in Oregon) Most people put aaaaaall these other letters that just have no business being there, so hello kindreed spirit.
Thank you all for being so friendly. I have been trying to get in here for a couple of days now but I forgot my sing on info. I am trying a vougue pattern intermediate level. I’m being very ambitious. I am having trouble with my gauge. it says 22 rows = 4inches. I have to make 2 gauges. 1 came out a little over 4 inches using suggested needles (10) so I did it in a 9 and it measures 3 inches. I gues they don’t make a 9 1/2 needle. Which size needle should I go with.
One more question on the gauge it says cast on 16 sts k13 p2 that adds up to 15 what do I do with the last stitch? and then it says rib using larger needles the suggested needle is 10 and 10 1/2. What are they saying?
First, with your gauge swatch–make a swatch that’s about 5 inches wide and 5 inches long. Them lay a ruler against a row of stitches and count how many stitches are in 4 inches. That will tell you your gauge.
Knitting the number of stitches that you’re supposed to get 4 inches from isn’t accurate.
Try that and then you’ll have a better idea as to what size needle you’ll need.
Can you copy here the first few rows of your pattern? Sometimes patterns will have you turn mid row and then pick those stitches up later. So read down in your pattern and see if later it mentions more stitches. Otherwise I would go to the website and see if they have corrections for your pattern (or call or write to them if they don’t have a website).
