Hello from newbue

Hi all, have knitted for years on and off but taken it again this year during the first lockdown to help preserve my sanity! I have just purchased a digital pattern for a chunky wool cardi. When I read the instructions it said to knit the whole thing using two strands of wool together. I’ve never come across this before and am hoping someone may be able explain why. Will this just make it thicker ? I would rather use single thread and not have such a heavy cardi but am concerned using a single thread may reduce the size and as a well padded girl there’s not a lot of wiggle room in the sizing🤣. Any insight gratefully received

Usually there is a gauge in the instructions telling how many stitches and rows to fill a 10cm x 10cm square. As long as you are close enough to that gauge, it doesn’t matter what yarn you use.
