Headbands

Question #1
I am having a hard time finding a pattern for the kind of headbands I want to knit. It should be pretty easy to freehand, but I am not sure of a couple of things.
I had this headband years ago that was knit, and I would like to replicate it. The band was about 1-2 inches wide, that part stopped just behind your ears, and it had 3-4 inch long ties that I am pretty sure were crochetd.

I am trying to decided if I should knit it width wise (side to side) , or length wise (top to bottom). What I mean is, should it be knit 4-5 stitches wide (or to guage for 1 in. wide) and many rows long, or should I go 30-35 stiches long and 6-7 rows wide?
(I only stated these numbers because I have only knit on size 15’s with a bulky weight yarn so thats about the guage I get on my test headband, I can guage up or down according to yarn and needle size)
Would this just be preference, or is there an advantage to doing it one way over the other?

I think it’s entirely up to you how you want it to look. You could do them both ways–they certainly won’t use a lot of yarn or time.
