Now I know there is a system of proportions for making jumpers (sweaters) without a pattern but is there a general proportion rule for hats when it comes to where to start decreasing for the crown?
like should the decrseases should be one third or one quarter of the total hat length? or something like that…
Is there a rule of thumb that I should know because I hate knitting with patterns esp for small things like hats and just want to know.
thanks
This site has a “recipie” for making hats based on head meaurements - hopefully it is what yo uare looking for!
Thanks SJ, that’s a great formula but it still gives the decrease point in head measurements ( in inches)
What I was really wondering is, if there is a rule for the proportions.
So, for example, that regardless of what the head measurement/proposed length of hat is, the decrease section is always one quarter/one eighth (or whatever) of that length.
Knowing a proportion means I can work it out for any size
Kind of like baking where sugar and butter always need to be in a certain ratio.
