Having trouble with abbreviations

I hope this is not a stupid question. I purchased a pattern book for purses. Many of the abbreviations I am not familiar with.

For example: 1/1RC: says K2tog, leaving sts on left-hand needle, then knit first st; drop both sts from needle

What exactly does this mean?

I get knit two together, it’s the leaving stitches on left-hand needle, then knit first stitch, drop both stitches that I’m having difficulty with

If I knit two together, and leave on the left needle, which is the first stitch? the first of the two knit together remaining on the needle, or the next stitch after the two knit together.

another:

1/1LC: With right-hand needle behind work, knit 2nd st on left needle behind owrk, knit wnd st on left hand needle through the back loop, then knit first st through front loop, drop both sts from needle

The cable portion of the instructions I understand as I am familiar with cabling.

I think there is a video for bobbling so I will check that one.

I know this sounds like I am in over my head, but I love to knit and I’m trying to improve my skills with more challenging patterns.

:aww:

When you knit a stitch, or k2tog, you drop the knitted st/s off the left needle. With the 1/1RC cross stitch, you k2tog, leave the st on the left needle and knit into the stitch that was closer to the tip. If you try this with largish needles, you can see the 2 separate sts easily.

For the 1/1LC: knit the 2nd st on the needle from the back of your work through the back leg of it, leave it on the needle and knit the first st as usual and drop off both sts.

Thanks for the quick update. So lets see if I have this right.

For 1/1RC you are neither increasing or decreasing. I think I have it.

For 1/1LC - so if I always use the back leg to knit, the front leg to purl?
I was originally taught german style, and have been working on english style knitting. Oddly enough I do quit a bit of ribbing and you can definitely see a difference. Anyway, so what you are saying is knit in the 1nd stitch in the back leg, and knit in the 1st stitch in the front leg…leaving both stitches on the left needle until complete?

Hmmm, you may be wrapping your purls the opposite way, so when you knit into the back leg, it untwists them. Look at the knit and purl videos here to see if you’re doing it differently.

So for your questions - RC, not it’s not a dec or an inc.

LC, yep, that’s right too.

Just to add my 2 cents: If you look at the 1/1RC and 1/1LC you’ll notice that they are twisting the 2 sts together to form tiny little cables! Keep that in mind and maybe it’ll help you figure out how to work them. I know it helps me!

Ah… thanks… as usual with both your help and a bit of patience I think I have it. And of course you are right, this is creating small cables with two needles rather than three…I like.
