Having trouble getting correct number of stittches

I am ending up with too many stitches as stated in pattern I miight not bre reading pattern correctly and am ending up with too many . Thanks in advance for your help and time

What are you making? Without more info, it’s really not possible to make a good guess.

Wedo need a little more info to help you. Can you give us a link to the pattern or type out just a couple rows where you’re getting too many sts.

It’s just a simple dishcloth I don’t think I"m reading the rows correctly for example at the end of each row it will say like 10 stitches but as this progress I"m ending up with more which really.

Right, but if you give us a link to the pattern or post the rows there, then we can help you through it easier.

Row1 (RS)(K1 yfwd K1) all inst.3 st.
Row 2 Knit
Row 3 inc 1 st in first st inc 1 s innext st K1 5 sts
Row 4Knit
Row 5 K1 inc 1 st in next st Knit to last two stitch Inc 1 st in next stitch K1
Row 6 Knit
Repeat last two rows twice more 11 sts
Thank you

Thanks

“Row1 (RS)(K1 yfwd K1) all inst.3 st.”

That means you do a k yo k all in one stitch - knit the st and leave it on the needle, wrap the yarn and knit into it again and you have 3 sts.

“Row 3 inc 1 st in first st inc 1 s innext st K1 5 sts”

Inc IN a stitch is a kfb. Again you knit in the st and leave it on the needle, then knit into the back leg of the same stitch. Do that on the first 2 sts and k1 and you have 5.

“Row 5 K1 inc 1 st in next st Knit to last two stitch Inc 1 st in next stitch K1”

Same thing - kfb, k 2, kfb k1 and you end up with 7 sts.

Then you do the plain knit row and repeat row 5 two more times and that’s where you get the 11 sts.

If you’re doing m1 instead of kfb you have to change it a little. Row 3 would be k, m1, k1 m1 k1 and row 5 is k2, m1, k2, m1 k1.

Thanks so much I get it now

I wrote “kfb, k 3, kfb k1 and you end up with 7 sts” and that’s 8 sts. It shoud be a k2 not k3 in the middle.

You didn"t say anything about row 2 and 4 you dont knit on those?Thank you

Yhanks for the help but 1 more question on this do you just skip rows 2 and4 Thanks for your time

No, don’t skip any rows; I didn’t mention 2 and 4 because they’re just plain knit. I was only giving you an example of the increase rows, different ways to inc on them.
