Have a question about K2, P2

The pattern (a pillow) calls for a k2 p2 for the first two rows and the next two rows to p2 k2.

My question is this: How do I make the transition from k to p not such a big hole? Am I making sense? As I’m going through I’m trying to pull it tight when I’m supposed to purl because the stitch seems to want to stay in a knit position. But it doesn’t always work out that way. Is there a ‘trick’ to making the purled side as tight as the knit side?

BTW, I’m an extremely tight knitter. I don’t like it, but the way I knit, I’d have huge holes everywhere if I didn’t pull the yarn tight.

TIA for any help.

I think someone wrote on here about wrapping purl stitches the opposite way than you normally would to make the stitch tighter, but then you have to knit through the back loop on the other side because you’re basically twisting the stitches. I haven’t tried this method though. I’m currently doing something in ribbing and I’m noticing the purls aren’t as tight as the knits, but I’m hoping it’ll even out once I wash it.

Thanks for responding, Mer. I forgot to mention that I’m using Chenile yarn. It doesn’t move very easy. I’ll give your suggestion a try.

ugh, I used a chenille yarn when I was making the hat for my DF, and it was incredibly hard to work with!

Right now I’m working a baby blanket in seed stitch, so I switch from knit to purl on every stitch. My seed stitch is definitely more loose than my knit stitch. I’m okay with that, because i like the texture. However, I think the key to not making a hole isn’t in how tight you pull the stitch itself, but rather how close you pull the yarn in front/back when you switch.

HTH.

I guess since I don’t like how it looks I could make something else. I started out making another afghan then changed my mind when it started to look like schmuck. So then someone suggested a pillow. But I can’t find that many patterns using chenile yarn.

I’m very frustrated with my knitting situation right now. I wish I could do more advanced projects but I’m just not that good yet. :verysad:

In time, I know…

It’s not you, it’s the chenille. It really is a PITA to work with. You can just make a square for pillows.

Get some regular old yarn and make something with that. It’ll show you how much you really CAN do.

I thought about it and I think I’ll just try a garter stitch to get rid of it. I have to do something with the yarn, you know?

I’ll never buy another skein of chenile if I can help it!! I just love it because it’s so soft. Ah, live and learn.
