Hats

So this is a dumb question but is there a video or can someone put into simple terms how to pick up stitches on the edge of say a band (I have a thin band that I have been working on it’s the braided cable that I asked about a few days ago. Well it’s playing nice and I’ve gotten it but it’s very thin about three inches wide. So I could either make it into a very long thin scarf which trust me has crossed my mind. Or I could make it into a hat but in order to do that I need to beable to pick up stitches along the edge. I’m so confused!:knitting:

Here’s what you might try-- first, find the video on here about picking up stitches. Then I’d take a look at this pattern:

It starts with a ribbed brim, but you could just pretend that the cabled band you have is that brim, and continue on from there, once you’ve picked up the stitches. You’ll need to play around a little bit first and figure your gauge so that you know which size to use and how many stitches to pick up.

is the best place to go such as what britty said

March_girl16-- yes, isn’t that just a great pattern?! Any yarn, any size-- I use it constantly.

Thanks for the link. The reason I signed on today was in hopes of finding a hat patterns for my grandchildren. These patterns are perfect–just love the fact that you can make any size with any yarn. Thanks again.
