I’ve been on a hat kick lately. I love knitting them for homeless shelters or as chemo caps or any number of things. This is one I finished this weekend (they’re almost instant gratification, aren’t they?).
ETA: this is also the first pattern I’ve written. I’m more thrilled with that fact, simple as it is, than I am with the actual hat. And I’m kinda partial to the hat. I think it’s fun.
Thanks everybody. Arkansas Children’s Hospital has been collecting chemo caps since June 1 of this year. The goal is to have 10,000 by the end of November. Already, more than 6,000 have been collected. I’m doing my best to help increase the number. I want them to get to the goal!
Rennagayle: I’d be happy to share the pattern. This was my first try at writing one, so I hope I got it right, but if you or anyone else sees any problems with it, let me know. Anyway, on to the hat:
ETA: gauge is something like 17 stiches and 30 rows = 4"
Made with 2 strands of woolease held throughout on size US 10 1/2 needles:
(I used the color “blue mist”)
CO 64 stitches (I used long tail cast on) and join without twisting.
K2, P2 around for 1 - 1 1/2 inches
K around for 3 rounds
K2, P2 rib for 3 rounds
K around 3 rounds
K2, P2 rib 1 round
K around until total hat height = 6 1/2"
Begin decreases:
R1: K2tog, K6 around
R2 (and all even rows): k around
R3: K2tog, K5 around
R5: K2tog, K4 around
R7: K2tog, K3 around
R9: K2tog, K2 around
R11: K2tog, K around
R13: K2tog around
Draw yarn through remaining stitches and weave in ends. Ta-da!
