Hat question

I am making this hat http://www.knitlist.com/95gift/ski.htm for ds8. The earflaps are stockenette so of course they are curling up. Is there anyway to avoid this? There is no room for a border of garter st. I am thinking of frogging and knitting the earflaps in garter st. Any other ideas?

Thanks

Single crochet along the edge might stiffen it up a bit and keep it from curling.

It looks like the embellishments on those hats were used to prevent curling, also. An edging added, or garter/seed stitch for the flap would do the same thing.

Thanks, I was wondering if the trim around the edges would do the trick. I bought a contrasting color for the trim so I will try it before I go any farther.
