Hat Done Now Problems with the Booties

Hi,

Awhile back I had a question about the duck’s bill on this hat http://www.p2designs.com (click Patterns, then Free Patterns, and it’s the Just Ducky Hat)–which you answered–thank you!

Now I’m knitting (or trying to) the booties. I’m making the biggest size so I cast on 34 stitches, put them on three DPNs (11 st, 12 st, 11 st) and knitted the first 10 rows in a P1, K1 rib.

Now it says to Begin Heel and the instructions say:

Note (in instructions): Heel is worked in back and forth in rows on needles 2 & 3 over 17 stitches.
Needle 1: K8, P1, K8 (Okay, this is my first problem, there are not 17 stitches on needle 1, there’s only 11.)

Heel Pattern:

Row 1: *Slip 1, K1, repeat from *
Row 2: Slip1, P across

Knit in heel pattern until you have 12 heel flap rows.

This is confusing to me because of the three needles and I can’t picture it in my mind. Please help! :frowning:

Hi!

This is my first post to the forum-but I’ve been reading a lot!

I love the pattern so I printed it and read through it. I think what you’ve done is divided your stitches incorrectly.

If you cast on 34 stitches and work your first 12 rows, you need to rearrange your stitches to:

needle 1 (17 stitches)
needle 2 (8 stitches)
needle 3 (9 stitches)

The instructions for that are under the ribbing pattern. I didn’t see them at first. But then, again, I don’t see a lot of things til they jump out and bite me.

Once you rearrange, you’ll have the 17 stitches you need for the first needle and you’ll be on your way again.

Good luck! The pattern is ADORABLE!

Thank you so much! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read through this pattern and I never saw that.

It really is a cute pattern. The hat is really sweet. I’m making it for a baby shower for my daughter’s friend who’s having her first baby.

Again, thank you!
