Hello!
So I’m knitting a simple, rolled brim hat using fixed circular needles and a regular stitch. I know that stockinette causes the brim to roll, but in the tutorial video I’m watching, the brim rolls outward, away from the needles (making sort of a “J” shape if you were to look at it sideways). My hat brim is rolling inwards, up towards the inner side of the tube. I just wanted to make sure that this won’t affect my hat once I get to decreasing and finishing it off. The finished stitch and the roll are on the same side of the hat, it’s just reversed from what I’m watching in the tutorial.
Help?? Thanks!
Some people knit in the round with what is usually the inside on the outside. That is what you are doing. I don’t think it will cause any big problems on this particular project. Do the decreases as given. When you are all done you can turn the hat outside in, and it will look like the pictures you have seen with the brim curling upward.
Yes, I suspect you are knitting “inside out.” Even though you can flip it for this one most likely it’s probably best to learn to knit on the outside because on some projects it may make a difference.
Make sure when you’re knitting in the round that when you have your “loop” or “circle” of knitting that your needles are closest to you. Here’s a picture of how you should be holding it.
