I thought we could start a thread for those of us who are starting on our gift knitting. Right now I am working on a Mistake Rib Beanie for my boyfriend. After which I think I will start the Dead Fish hat from knitty for my dad.

I started about a month ago. I just finished a felted tote for SIL andI’m working on a 6hr Afghan for my grandma. I also bought some yarn for other Christmas projects.
Last year was my 1st Christmas as a knitter and I thought I was going to make all these great gifts. I ran outta time, so I am starting now. I will do the best I can and whatever I finish I will give. I refuse to stress about it this year, I don’t want knitting to become a chore. :knitting: :knitting: :knitting:
i’m doing some small bags for my mom to give out cookies in. i have 2 out of 9 done right now.
Yep just started yesterday. I am knitting on a hooded scarf for my little sister.

My twin wants a cardigan for around the house-rockafeller cardigan from wenlan chia
my brother got greedy and he wants a cardigan, hat and fingerless gloves with a mitten cover (but that’s ok he is very knit worthy he wore out the first sweater I gave him)
my brother-in-law wants a viking hat
my mother wants a scarf
my best friend wants a scarf and
bf daughter wants something pretty (havent decided yet what to give her. she is 6)
and I think that’s is everyone.

I have been thinking about it. I decided my first lace project is going to be a Christmas gift for my great-aunt. Not that she needs another scarf, but she is appreciative of things like that.
The rest of them, I have no clue.
I am thinking about it. No decisions yet. What does a Dead Fish hat and a Mistake Rib Beanie look like? The names are interesting? I am looking for a hat for one of my sons which has a spiral look when you look at the top of it. I just made a decision, lol. He does like beanies, any suggestions and the spiral is for him?
All I know I’m making for sure, is our nieces and nephews are all getting hats/mitts/scarves made from Briggs & Little wool, for warm and toasty outside play.
I’ve mostly been thinking about non-knitted things. I’ve been knitting lots of dishclothes this year, so I’ll be giving those as add-ons, for the most part. But I have a LONG list to buy for, so you better believe I’ve been thinking about it!
So far I’ve made sockes for my uncle anda fingerknit flower for my aunt.

Yep! I’ve started. Last year I made hats and mittens for all my nieces & nephews (9 of 'em) and I had a hard time getting them all done and got quite bored doing the same pattern. So this year I’ve decided to do up a bunch of headbands for the girls and then throw in some “girlie” stuff…lip gloss, lotion, etc. I’m stumped on the 2 boys though and I still have to think of something for my mom.
where did u got this pattern for hooded scarf. please let know. i want to knit as well i dont know how i don’t know how to read pattern. if anyone can teach me.

I have finished a few things already. A santa hat and scarf set. I’m working on another hat/scarf set for my niece and almost finished with that one. I’ve planned a few dish cloths and they’re next. I also want to make some felted potholders for a friend. I tried it twice and they came out so misshaped. Yuck. Gotta try again. I don’t give away much of my work outside of the immediate family other than my neice, who really appreciates it and gushes over the presents. She can’t wait till she’s big enough to try it herself.
So tonight while going through my new KnitPicks catalog, I decided to look up some Knitpicks yarn that I have in my stash. I looked through different patterns on Rav that were knit with Suri Dream and cam across a simple scarf that only takes 1 ball. This prompted me to being my Christmas Knitting List - cause last year I get all whacked out trying to remember what I planned on making for who.
So my list is started and I have the pattern name, yarn name, # of skeins, who it’s for and if it’s completed columns. I hope this will keep me organized. I tried to pick simple, 1-2 skein pattens to keep the stress level down. Plus I think it will give me enough time to get all of the knitting complete in plenty of time. Yeah me for being proactive :woot: :woot: :woot:
I started in… I think February lol. So far, I’ve done three pairs of socks, a pullover for my 2 year old niece, and three hats. I have two more hats left and then I’m done!
I have always been an early Christmas shopper but since I have been knitting and giving knitted gifts I have to start even earlier and often run out of time. Last Christmas I intended to give my daughter in law the Knitting Pure and Simple Bulky Hooded Vest but didn’t get it done. It is almost complete for this year! I am also making a matching vest for her 2 year old daughter. Another daughter in law is getting a cardigan that I have yet to find a pattern for. She is a yoga teacher and I would love to find something appropriate for yoga. Anyone have a pattern idea that I could use?

As for reading the pattern I’m not sure how to help until you actually get the pattern in front of you. It’s easider to help you interprete the pattern when you have it in front of you. Do you already know how to knit? If not review the videos on here. It will be a great help. The pattern is not a beginner pattern though but you will learn alot!!
