Has anyone ever made up their own sock pattern?

Or where do you find good ones? What’s your favorite?

Once you get the hang of knitting socks, I think it’s pretty easy to design your own.

I have TONS of sock pattern links in my favorites!

and a cool sockulator http://www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/765

have fun…I loved looking up socks on the net… there are SOOOOO many… I can’t remember the site, but I did at one time find one that had hundreds of free patterns on it.

I’ve done several of my own sock patterns. Once you have the fundamentals down, it’s pretty easy  I found that Knitty Gritty helped me a lot & this episode has a LOT of tips on it for measuring, etc. You can also get several tips @ www.socknitters.com and, of course, our Silver’s Class is very helpful with the fundamentals
HAVE FUN :happydance: :cheering: :happydance:

socknitters is a great group. I belong to the yahoo list.

I think what I’m afraid of is the turn heel part…like if you make up your own pattern, how do you know how many to knit before you turn?

Trial and error, knit and frog.

When turning a heel you 1st knit (or purl…I usually start with the purl side) 1/2 the # of sts on the heel flap plus 2. for example, if you have 32 sts on your heel flap, you would purl across 18 sts(16 sts plus 2 sts) to begin turning; then p2tog, p1, turn

I got the half plus 2 for the purl row, what about the knit row? which is a much smaller number, any system for figuring this out?
