Mayday, I’ve heard that other’s have done some garter stitch edgings as well, and that it really helped the curling issue. I ended up totally frogging mine. I plan on redoing it in the round at some point, because I want it to be double sided.
About the chart reading:
When you are on a right side row you usually read the chart from right to left. And a wrong side from left to right. If I remember correctly, you just knit across all the right side rows. On the wrong side is where the real magic for the knits and purls comes in.
