Gusset question

Please help me. I’m a new knitter attempting my first sock. The directions say decrease every other row. Okay, I do a K2 tog decrease, knit to the other side, do a SSK decrease. Then, do I knit all the way around until I’m back at the SSK decrease? Wouldn’t that make me have more decreases on that side? Or do I knit past the K2 tog decrease, past the SSK decrease and back to the K2 tog decrease? Wouldn’t that make me have too many heel and/or instep sts? I’ve read many patterns and watched multiple tutorials and none are clear on this. I would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Welcome to KH. Which pattern are you doing? Is it top-down? Please give us a link to your pattern.

The pattern I’m using is in “Getting Started Knitting Socks” by Ann Budd and is a top down pattern. I have viewed multiple other patterns and videos and most do say to decrease every other row. Thanks.

Hi and welcome!

Do the k2tog, then knit to the ssk and then knit around to the k2tog. That’s a decrease round. Now knit one round with no decreases. On the next round knit to the k2tog, decrease, knit to the ssk, decrease. You want to knit one full round without a decreases in between decrease rounds.
Most patterns have you place a marker to mark the beginning of round and if you have one already, that may help.

Ahhh…that makes perfect sense now. Thank you so much!
