Gusset: North Country Cotton Baby Socks

I’m following the pattern for the baby socks along with the video which I purchased. I am on the gusset. I just finished knitting the last 8 stitches along the other side of the heel, and I continued knitting to the center of the heel stitches which is called needle 3.

I do have 11 stitches on two needles and 12 on the other. According to the directions it gives the needles names… needle 1… needle 3… and 2. Is this important for I don’t know if my needles are housing the correct number of stitches? thanks, cair.:knitting:

You don’t have to have the sts on the correct number needle but it sure makes the decreases easier to remember. You should have 3 heel sts plus 8 on needle 1, 12 instep sts on needle 2, and 8 plus 3 heel sts on needle 3. You’re next going to decrease by k2tog, 3 sts before the end of needle 1 and then start off needle 3 with a k1, slip 1, k1, psso for several rounds. Having the correct number of sts on the 3 needles keeps those decreases in the right place. You could use st markers, but I think this is easier.

OK… thanks, S… I’ll look at the needle 1 & 3 (11 sts) needle 2 (12) I’ll try this. cair
