I have a question regarding guage…I can usually get guage on the stitch count, but almost never on the row count…it’s either one or the other (even when I’m using the yarn called for in the pattern). I’ve just spent an entire weekend knitting swatches, and I’m so frustrated!
:wall:
How important is the row count, and how do I make adjustments in the pattern to compensate for fewer than called for rows (or is it easier to adjust for the stitch count)? Thanks in advance for any help!
Don’t knock yourself silly trying for row gauge. No it’s not nearly as important as stitch gauge and most patterns tell you to work for X inches not X rows. If it’s close you’ll be fine.

It just depends on what you are making in terms of how to adjust it. Most garment patterns give you guage, but they also give you measurements for what pieces should turn out. So if you’re working on a sweater and the front is supposed to be 22", you just knit the rows you need to make it 22". WHERE you do the extra rows may depend on the overall shape of the garment. If you’re long waisted, you may want to put a few extra at the waist. Just remember to adjust the back piece the same as the front!
