Guage on Green Gable

I’m very very new to knitting and having a very hard time getting guage for the Green Gable sweater by Zephyr Style. It’s supposed to be 20 st in 4" St st on size 6 needles. I feel like I’m knitting loosley and I keep getting 23 st in 4".

I’m using the faux-in0the-round method for swatching.

I can move up to size 7 needles and give it a shot, but I’m suprised at how loose the fabric is already…

Do you wash your swatched before counting stitches or just measure prewashing?

Washing/blocking swatches depends on the yarn. I generally don’t swatch, exactly, though I do knit up a sample to see what gauge I get because I never use the needle size or the yarn called for. So I knit my sample to figure out how many to cast on. But yes, you could do that with yours and see if the gauge changes. If it doesn’t, you could make a larger size on the size 6 needles.

Are you using the wool recommended by the pattern?
