Gracious cardigan

Hi , I´m having a hard time understanding a knitting pattern.
It´s an English pattern.
Most of it I understand but when it comes to abbreviations and such it gets a bit difficult.
I´m not a native English speaker, I´m from the Netherlands.
I´m trying to knit the beautiful Gracious cardigan from Kim Hargreaves.
I´m having 108 stitches on my needle and I need to increase as follows.
“Cont in rib, shaping side seams bij inc 1 st at each end of next and 2 foll 8th rows, taking inc sts into rib”
I need to have 114 stitches after that.
I’m probably reading it wrong because I only count 3 increases according to the written above. Which gives me 111 stitches instead of 114. Am I reading it wrong?

Further on in the pattern it says;

Inc 1 st at each end of the 6th and 3 (3:1:1:3:3:3:3) foll 6th rows, then on 0 (0:2:2:0:0:0:0:) foll 8th rows.
99 stitches are on the needle and above increases should give me 109 stitches.
I’m reading 4 increases, 99 + 4 = 103 and not 109.
I have read the pattern over and over again but my brain is working overtime.
Is there someone who can translate the above to understandable step by step sentences.
I’m at the point of just giving up :frowning:
Many many thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

“…inc 1 st at each end of next and 2 foll 8th rows” It’s those little words that are so easy to miss.
If you increase at each end of the row (beginning and end of row) then there are 6 increases total. Your English is very good. This is an easy direction to miss in any language.

“Inc 1 st at each end of the 6th and 3 (3:1:1:3:3:3:3) foll 6th rows, then on 0 (0:2:2:0:0:0:0:) foll 8th rows.”
For the first size for example there’s the increase at each end of 4 rows which would be 8sts increased. That still doesn’t add up to 109 (99+8=107) but perhaps there is another increase somewhere in this section? The increases for the first size are on rows 6,12,18 and 24 with no other increases.

It’s a lovely, elegant sweater so typical of Kim Hargreaves patterns.
