I agree, but there’s one problem. A woman with large breasts cannot go without a bra and strapless bras don’t cut it when they have to hold a lot of weight {{ahem, cough cough}}
I absolutely love this sweater though. Hubby loves it too, which makes it tempting to bring out the heavy duty tape to hold “everything” in place if I were to ever make it.[/quote]
That’s not necessarily true ;). I know a lady who is a size 40HHH!!! :shock: I didn’t know HHH was bra size; I just thought it was the wrestler from WWE :rofling: Anyhoo - she has a strapless bra for her HHH’s. Granted, she had to get it specially made. I think it sank her about $80 or so. But she also said she thought it was well worth the money because she never had a bra that comfortable. She told me she would continue to get her bras from this place depite the sharp price. I know another lady who is a 38DD (not nearly as … voluptuous :oops: as HHH, but still FULL ;); she also bought a strapless from the same place and loves her ~$40 (?) strapless.
That is a beautiful sweater! I’m going to print the pattern in the hopes that ‘someday’ I’ll be able to knit it.
As for strapless bras and all that why not get one with clear straps? They are pretty nice and work very well for me (not that I have a big chest but I do have dusky skin).
Well, I’ll hold my opinion about strapless bras on reserve for a bit. I started going to a really nice bra shop this year, because I love the atmosphere of this place. Department stores and chains do not carry my size. I have always dreaded bra shopping until I went to this place, so my views “are” changing. So are hubby’s views
Anyway, I’ll keep that in mind when I go there next. Umm, $40 to $80 is way less than what I paid for mine. The starting prices don’t even go down that low in my size.
EK, that’s a bummer about your scars. I used to get pimples on the sides of my shoulders and have lighter colored specks from scars they left, but I’m so pale that it’s not that noticable, so I don’t worry about it. …I don’t know, what is that stuff that Michael Jackson used?? Man, I miss MJ the black man, remember him? He used to be good looking. Such a Bummer.
I don’t know what kinds of large bras are possible, but I’ve seen off the shoulder stuff on voluptuous women before, and I think it’s a fabulous, sexy look!
Feministmama, I love that idea in that book, too! I should set up a basket like that in my house, where friends can contribute to knitting the scarf. It would turn out so original and special! Reminds me of a woman I know who created a whole shawl by having strangers knit a stitch in it, even people who’d never knit before. She says, people would stop her in town and ask “How’s our shawl coming?” Such a cool idea!
I wonder if it would work with a bra with those clear straps? I use those when i wear a tank top and they’re not noticable. Maybe you could knit it and add some knitted straps (but that might make it look extra-80s)
Well, call me crazy, but for people who want to make the beautiful sweater, but don’t want their shoulders to show, why couldn’t we just design some matching shoulder-coverage-sections and attach them to the sweater?
I’ve seen it done before with tops that have a very wide boatneck (spanning the entire shoulder area from shoulder-point to shoulder-point), where some triangular sections fill in the neckline on top of the shoulder – these were designed into the garment, not added on later. It can give a very attractive neckline that still maintains the design line from shoulder to shoulder, but offers a little more coverage.
In this case, if the shoulder-coverage triangles were in stockinette stitch, they would lay flat on the shoulders, and the cables would still take center stage.
Of course, adding them on would depend on how people felt about sewing. Definitely something you would want to pin into position first to get the fit just perfect.
