Good bulky yarn?

im trying to use the wool ease bulky, in black/brown but its so scratchy and fake feeling in my fingers (which is weird because i used the same yarn in another color and it felt fine) while im knitting that i dont want to use it. im beginning to understnad why cheap yarn isnt exactly cheap. you buy it and then waste it bc you dont want to knit with it!

can someone recommend a good feeling yarn in natural or “manly” (its for my brother) colors thats bulky or super bulky? making a scarf for him. in expensive would be great, im not rich. im a nurse and the sole supporter of my family.

also, can you make a six foot scarf with 26" circs? someone told me i could, but it seems like its just too small. can it be done?

that’s a lot of stitches on that scarf but yeah probably could.

I am a fan of Lambs Pride bulky!!!

ohhhhh i just looked up lambs pride and there are so many colors to choose from! is it soft? this acrylic/wool blend woolease is not soft. it feels plastic-y and itchy all at once. makes my fingers want to jump out of their skin

I’m a big fan of knitpicks Sierra. it’s a bulky weight, very soft and comes in a variety of colors.

Lambs Pride bulky is nice, but it’s a little scratchy for me. It’ll probably be fine for a scarf though.

I’ll quickly post this and then run from the flying wool… I like Bernat Softee Chunky. It’s 100% acrylic, but it feels wonderful, comes in lots of colours, and washes up really easy.

You other question has been answered and I don’t know much about yarn yet anyway. However the answer to this question is yes! You won’t be knitting it lengthwise on them. Most likely you’ll be using the circs and still knitting it “flat”. Do you have a pattern?

I wish my LYS sold the lamb’s pride bulky I bet its nice to knit with…

nicolethegeek I just made my son’s sweater out of it my first time knitting with it… I really liked how it knit up very soft too…

yeah, this person said i could knit lengthwise. thats what i wanted to do with the circs. knit a fabulous mens scarf.

nicolethegeek, im gonna look up that yarn bc i really dont care if its animal hair or not. i just want soft. no itchy no plasticy scratchy for me. i just want soft bulky yarn. thanks for the tip!

jax3303, i was just musing over that yarn at knitpicks and am glad to know it knits up soft. i was thinking 70% wool? mayyyyyybe. glad to know its a YES. does it pilll up? ive been nervous about them ever since reading baout WOTA pilling.

ooh i didn’t even think about the fact that you might not be doing it length wise…sheesh

i would say i wouldn’t want to use lambs pride on something that is going to be worn next to the skin for any length of time but for a hat, mittens, and scarf i have no problems with that. a sweater might be a little too itchy though.

It has never been too itchy for me to knit with though! and it felts wonderfully!

I love Lopi!

Ohh I so recommend that too. The colors are just fantastic and it’s so soft…

Hence why I have three skeins of it :rofling:
