I know there was a thread here earlier on this topic, with lots of greats reads listed, but I couldn’t find it. Anyway, I just finished Leaving Mother Lake by Yang Erche Namu and Christine Mathieu. It is a true story of a girl growing up in an almost isolated area of the Himalayas in Chinaduring the 50’s and 60’s. Christine Mathieudid her doctoral dissertation on this culture. Fascinating!
