Going through knitting withdrawal!

I just finished making my very first sock. well, I was excited to start on the second, but now I am having problems knittiing!

This is my 30th week of pregnancy and my right hand keeps on going numb every time I try to knit! How frustrating! I hope it won’t be like this for the rest of the trimester…That could drive a girl nuts!

Any suggestions on how to amke the numbness go away so I can knit? I wonder if a wrist brace would help…

I had the same problem with my first pregnancy – it’s basically carpal tunnel syndrome brought on by all the swelling. Unfortunately, it lasted until the end of the pregnancy – but at least it disappeared as shortly afterward! I wore wrist braces and they did give me some relief, but I still couldn’t write or type or knit for very long at a time… I haven’t had it yet this pregnancy (32 weeks along, yay!) so I’m kntting like a fiend, trying to get as much in before the baby is born! I know that between the new baby and a 2 1/2 year old, I probably won’t have time to shower, much less knit!!

Maybe you could also try those lotions that increase blood circulation. I know they have them for your legs to prevent spider veins. I suggest consulting a diabetes website. I know diabetics often have troubles with numbness.

Don’t want to scare you, but as hard as it is I suggest you take good care of it and let it rest. I know of someone who had the same problem and ended up having surgery after the baby was born. So not aggravating it is important right now. Maybe you could read some knitting books to keep you busy. There are several good knitting mysteries out and of course there are always pattern books, etc…
