Hi,
I’m trying to to this pattern but to avoid stitching the sleeves up in the end I decided to do the sleeves in the round. My questions is, can I go from knitting in the round, to knitting it flat all in one piece? Or would that some how close off the hole to the sleeve, sort of looking like the end of a tube of tooth paste?

:think: I’m not sure if that would work or not…have you checked out Amy’s videofor seaming? you wouldn’t have much to seam and it’s real easy 
You can absolutely go from round to flat. Think of it kinda like a short row. You just need to pay attention the first two rows or so, so that you don’t accidentally do something weird.
The main problem with that though is that the edging on that pattern is an afterthought edging, so you would need to come up with something else (like maybe a garter stitch or seed stitch border) to take it’s place, and be sure to cast on both the width of the border (x2) and the width of the shrug itself when you start.

Ok, great, I was hoping that I could. One of those things that if you haven’t done it, you can’t really try to figure out in your head for too long or your head will start to hurt.
I’ll see what I can do with the border, I really just want it there to add length to the sides under the arms and near the chest.
With knitting it’s sometimes best to take the yarn and needles and follow step by step rather than figure out it in your head beforehand.
