I would like to knit a pair of gloves for a friend of my deceased son. He has very large hands and fingers. My questions is do I go up a needle size and use the same numbers for the pattern I have or add a few more stitches it calls for? He has no idea I am planning this
Gloves for a Man with large hands and fingers
What about using essentially the same measurements and working with a thicker yarn and the same stitch numbers? You can try increasing the needle size but make sure that if you use the same yarn, the gloves aren’t too loose or lacy.
What a nice surprise for this friend. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the gloves.
I am trying a small try with size 4 and a leftover sock yarn . I have a couple rows of ribbing done then I will just do the small hand portion of a few rows of stockinet, then start the first finger. I added 4 stitches to the number reccomennded in the pattern for a man’s size. If this does not work I will try the thicker yarn and same numbers in the pattern .
That sounds like a way to work it. Let us know how it’s going.
I will
My daughter got him to trace his hand on a piece of papper and by looking at the numbers I think going up to a size 3 and using the original numbers it will fit him
Good idea!
I did add 2 extra stitches to the cast on, 60 total instead of the 58 it lists in the pattern.
In the portion of the section after the ribbing I added two extra rows , 12 instead of 10. I am also adding 2 stitches to the thumb stitches, 22 instead of 20
All sound like good modifications.
I have finished the hand portion an laid on the tracing of his hand and my calcuulations of adding extra rows to the original numberof the pattern has gotten it to the base of his little finger , right where I needed it to be before starting the fingers.
