Glove pattern

I’ve got a bit of confusion with the lacing on this glove pattern.
I’ve got 35 stitches in the round and the pattern reads:
Round 1: K1, K2tog, YO, K1, YO, SSK, K1 (rep * to * 5 times)
Round 2 and 4: Knit
Round 3: K2tog, YO, K3, YO, SSK (rep * to * 5 times) Repeat pattern 3 times.

For round 1 and 3 I made the assumption that 5 repeats means each repeat takes up 7 stitches, but it took 9 the first time I did it. This meant I was one stitch short of 4 repeats…

It may be that you’re using a stitch to make the YO. For a YO, just bring the yarn to the front between the needles and then over the right hand needle to the back. That’s it.
You’re right that each repeat should be 7sts.
Each repeat should take 7sts.

Ah thank you so much, that makes sense now!
When I’ve done yo before in patterns they’ve included the stitch?

They really shouldn’t but it may be in the other patterns that you did, the extra knit stitch (or a few missing at the end of the row) worked out just fine.

Hope the gloves go well! Enjoy knitting them.
