Glove pattern help

I’m trying to make fingerless gloves and i’m confused on some levels. Here’s the part i’m on and the bold is what i’m confused about.

Using the long-tail or other stretchy method, cast on 36(40, 42, 48) stitches. Divide the stitches evenly between four DPNs, join (being careful not to twist the stitches) and work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2.5 (3, 3, 3.5)" / 6.5 (7.5, 7.5, 9)cm. Change to stockinette and m1 at the end of the next round. 37(41, 43, 49) sts.

(INC 1)Start thumb gusset: K 18(20, 21, 24), pm, m1, K1, m1r, pm, (2 sts inc) K to end of round. 39(43, 45, 51) sts. K 2 rounds even.

(INC 2)Inc again as foll: K to marker, sl marker, m1, k to marker, m1r, sl marker. K 2 rounds even.

Inc as above every 3 rounds 1(3, 5, 6) more times. Inc as above every 4 rounds 2(1, 0, 0) times. 47(53, 57, 65)sts. Total sts for the thumb gusset (in between the markers): 11(13, 15, 17).

I labeled the 2 different inc directions INC 1 and INC 2. So i did them already and i’m on the bold part now. Do i do INC 1 exactly again and then INC 2 then knit 3 rounds and do it 1(3, 5, 6) more times?? and what part exactly is the gusset?

The gusset is basically the base of the thumb. As you increase, you’re building the thumb.

Just do what you call INC 2. Inc 1 row has you placing the markers, otherwise they’re the same.

So do the Inc 2 row, knit 2 rows even, then inc again on the third row, etc.

oh so then how come it says to slip the markers or “sl marker”?

On your INC1 row, it has you ‘pm’–place marker.

On your INC2 row it has you slip the marker you placed previously. You will have to continue to slip the marker, but you only place it once.

oh see i think i place marker wrong i put in on the stitch instead of (what i just learned) put it on the kneedle. so when i think slip the marker i thought you take it off the stitch and don’t use it anymore.

Just slip it from one needle to the other. It’s very, very rare that a pattern has you mark a particular stitch.

aaah i see. thanks for the help!
