I’m going to knit my first blanket. It will 52 inches wide, so I need to use circular knitting needles. The yarn is bulky and requires a size US 11. How long should the cord be? Is 36 inches long enough?
Getting Started with Knitting in the Round
Typically a circular needle will hold 30-40% more length than the length of the needle. A 36 inch needle (measured tip to tip) would hold ~45-50 inches of knitting. You might be a bit compressed depending on the softness of the yarn. You can give it a try with the 36inch but possibly a >40inch needle is what you’ll need to be comfortable.
