Then as I am repeating steps 7 & 8 x4 I realize I messed the lines. I reveresed my stitches. I tried to fix it but I had to tear it all out because I dont know what I am doing. I like the hat and the yarn is very nice. The pattern is pretty normal for hats. If you messed up then the bumps would be on the outside. Just turn the hat inside out.

I think you should be happy you feel comfortable with a first project that has decreases. It took me several scarves & dishclothes to get to that!

Why do so many grown-ups think they have to be perfect right out of the starting gate?? That’s nuts.
By looking at your photo, anyone would be proud to wear a lovely, colorful hat like that. Knitting with variegated yarn is a total luck-of-the draw - you simply cannot predict where the colors will change in your work. [at least, that’s been my experience.]
Be proud!!! You have completed a functional, warm, useful product made with pride and love. So you goofed… so what. It’s time to learn from your goof and… joyfully select your Next Project!!

Looks like you’re doing great to me. Frogging is part of knitting and nothing to get angry about. No project is complete unless it’s been frogged at least once :mrgreen:

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve had to frog stuff in the lat 2 yrs since i’ve been knitting.
I think that you are doing a great job. To be honest, everyone here is so right, you have not knitted until you frog. I have had multiple projects that I have done that. By the way - what yarn did you use, I want to make this for my kiddos!

I agree…no need to get mad about it…it’s just part of the process. In fact, I decided early on that I was becoming a better knitter for making lots of mistakes and learning how to fix them, than another woman in our group who rarely made mistakes–but when she did, she went running to someone to fix it for her. We started at about the same time, and she constantly expresses “awe” at my knitting skill (totally unwarranted!!! :-D), but it’s only because I’ve messed up so very much!!
Aww, we’ve all been there! Frogging is definitely part of the process, and it’s a good learning experience. 
Plus if you have to rip everything out, you get twice as much knitting enjoyment out of the same amount of yarn! lol :woot:Take heart, we’ve all been there. And this quote cracked me up:

I think your hat is lovely… I could never make a hat so beautiful! (Well not yet, anyhow) You’re doing great!! I know how hard it is tbe frustrated with yourself… Just remember why you knit - it’s fun and you enjoy it. I had to put one of my projects away and work on another because was so frustrated.
That’s the hat from the pattern right? Don’t worry about making a mistake. Some of us have been knitting for years and make mistakes so we have to rip out a few rows or start over. The only way you learn is figure out what you’re doing wrong and start over the right way. Just keep knittin’…

The hat is not mine. I am starting the pattern. the color of my hat will be cammo. I have boys. I like the pattern that is used but those colors are all wrong for my boys.
Don’t worry~you’re doing fine! After all, you’ll just get more practice this way, and that always makes one better 
Everyone is right, it’s just par for the course. I just ripped out a sock I had started because I screwed it all up-but I am now further along than where I was and so far so good :mrgreen: Maybe I’ll get it right this time!
