German to English Pattern

I have a pattern that says “For the armholes on both sides in every 2. row 1 x 3 sts, 1x2 sts, and 1x1 st dec= 59 sts” I’ve never seen the multiplication sign before, does that mean knitxpurl ribbing?

Welcome to KH!
This shorthand is used in patterns so you may well come across it again. In your case, the X means bind off the given number of sts 1 time.
Decrease 3sts each side every other row once, then 2sts each side every other row once and finally one stitch each side every other row once.
Since you can only bind off at the beginning of a row, you would bind off 3sts at the beginning of row 1, 3sts at the beginning of row 2, 2sts at the beginning of row 3 and 2sts at the beginning of row 4 and finally 1stitch at the beginning of row 5 and one stitch at the beginning of row 6.
