I finally finished the heel in child’s sock. I followed the tutorial attached to pattern but wasn’t easy. The hardest part was gsr on purl side. I did just as instructed but it wasn’t as pretty as the knit side. I struggled to see the two legs. But after two separate starting over, on the 3rd try I persevered through. Here’s what it looks like
So after the leg, which will be slightly above ankle, my plan is to do the 1x1 rib and cast off with picot edge. I’ve looked at several methods but think I will use the one posted by yarn drops studio “how to cast off with picot edge on a rib”. I wish I knew how to copy a link or a video so maybe someone had something else to offer. As far as gsr, does it look like it should and will it get easier cause I thought it pretty “finicky”
Oh one more thing. I looked at other gsr tutorials and they were somewhat different than the one that went with pattern but I followed the one with the pattern. Are there multiple methods to do the gsr
Yes, I would have followed the pattern if only to see how the GSR would turn out. Here’s a video similar to one I learned from:
And one that uses the technique for short row heels.
What is the name of your pattern?
Here’s a Drops video for picot bind off in rib. I haven’t used this but it looks like a very nice decorative edging for your sock.
(If you copy and paste the URL for the video that will give us the link to the video.)

The pattern is basic toe up kids sock on Yumi yarns. And that’s the video by garn drops for the picot edge that I was referring to. I’m hoping the second sock goes more smoothly. I’ll try your directions for linking videos next time I need to send something. Thanks
Just tried the sock on my granddaughter so I could figure out how much to knit before start cuff. At least it fits her with room to grow a little with her. So proceeding on.

Good going!
Here’s the link to the Ravelry page:
And a link to the heel video:
Basically the same as other GSR videos except that many videos have you turn first, then make the double stitch. I’ve found that you don’t have to pull the stitch up the make the double stitch so firmly. Be a little more gentle about the pull and it seems to blend in better.
Ok thanks for the hint about not pulling tightly on stitch. I know I was doing that. Will use your suggestion on this socks mate. Yes. That was confusing me that other videos had you turn before doing the double stitch. If you turn first does the heel look the same?
It doesn’t matter but most of the videos I’ve seen have you turn then move the yarn and pull up the double stitch. It’s whatever is easier for you.

Do you mean:
A) Turn before working the double stitch or
B) Turn before creating the double stitch?
A is down when decreasing the length of the GSR.
Here is a simple example video I found that really helped me understand GSR. The pulling up the legs of the stitch below makes sense because it tightens up the stitches that would otherwise be stretched into holes.
