Gauge swatch

What is a good size square to make for a gauge swatch???

A 4x4 inch square is the correct gauge swatch. Or that’s what I heard. :??

Thank you Jenelle that’s what I heard to but I wasn’t sure

You might want to make it a little bigger. If you want to measure your stitches over 4 inches, you don’t want to include the edge stitches.

actually, you should make your swatch larger than 4 inches, and then measure off 4 inches on the inside of the square and count the stitches there. The edge stitches withh throw your gauge if your swatch is exactly 4 inches

what i usually do is knt a swatch whatever size, and then measure off in 2 inch segments.

I tend to cheat and use the beginning of my project as a swatch.

I only do a swatch for sweaters if it’s a yarn I’ve never used before. Otherwise, for sweaters, I’ll start the sleeve and use that as a swatch. If it doesn’t need to fit, I don’t bother. If its a hat, I check when I’m into it a little ways.
