Gauge swatch needle change?

Good day all, I’ve knit two swatches for my second ever sweater and I’m choosing to go up one size (4mm to 4.5mm). That said, do I also go up one size on the smaller Needle recommended for the collar (3.5 recommended)? I’m knitting the Emily Bolduan Real Easy Raglan. (I’m going to try the short rows this time, wish me luck!). Thanks for any tips on needle size. Have a great day.

Sure, you can also go up a needle size for the smaller size needle. Such a good way to begin with swatches. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/real-easy-raglan

Very good choice for a classic raglan pullover.

Maybe try out the rib on your swatch?
Even if you’ve bound off the swatch you can just knit into the cast off edge to try the rib out on the needle sizes you are considering (the 3.5 recommened and the larger). You can try one knitted into the bind off edge and one knitted onto the the cast on edge and compare. I prefer rib in a smaller needle than patterns often ask for as I find it comes out neater, I’ve also seen it as one of the tips for neater rib. It’s personal preference of course.

Okay great, I figured but as a 20 year beginner, I’m still hesitant to experiment too much! Thanks.
