Hi! I’m starting my second pair of fetchings - YAY! For this one, I’m using Misti Baby Alpaca on size 4 needles. Here’s are my questions: the pattern calls for 21 stiches over 4". when I swatched out the misti I got close to 30. Should I double strand or should I just use a thicker yarn? If I double strand and it seems a bit tight - will this just make the warmers warmer? seems like i’ve heard that knitting too tight will actually cause the warmers to loose heat. Suggestions?
Thanks!
what weight of the misti are you using? i just finished my fetchings, and did them on the 6’s as the pattern called for, but substituted with another worsted weight yarn, so that came out fine. at 30 sts/inch, you are going to have to change something because they are just not going to fit! have you tried the size 6 needles instead or is the yarn too thin for that? i have not heard the too tight knitting losing heat thing, but i guess it’s possible??? However, alpaca is insanely warm, so I can’t imagine that being a problem…
Hope this helps somehow!
thanks for your reply! my misti is sport weight. i had tried single strand on 6s and it didn’t look nice at all. i think i’ll try double stranding on 6s. i think it just looks too tight.
thanks again!
ah, the sport weight will do it! hope it works out! fun pattern!
