Gauge question

I’m a newbie. I have a pattern that says the gauge is 22sts = 4inches with US5 needles.

I’m used to seeing gauge in stitches = and rows=. How do I check my gauge with this pattern?

Its still the same…they’ve just given you gauge over 4". SO…this would be 5.5 sts per inch.

The stitch measurement is the important one, anyway. You can always knit more/fewer rows if need be. If a pattern says to knit for X number of inches, the row gauge measurement is even unnecessary.

I’d just check the stitch gauge and play the row gauge by ear.
