Gauge, need advice please,I made a boo boo

Hi, I’m knitting the pattern Wavecrest by Libby Jonson. I made a boo boo, I used 3.50mm needles by mistake but to get proper gauge I should have used 3.75. ( the correct gauge is 26stsx4inches, I’m getting 31st) I’m now three inches below the sleeve join, I tried it on and it fits well but I would like it more roomy around my tummy area. I’m not comfortable winging it, I follow a pattern. What are my options? If I rip back to the white part would I get away with changing my needle size, all advice welcome.

Absolutely! It’s a rather small change in fact and won’t be noticeable at the yoke body join. Make sure this will give you enough change in gauge to give the body size you want.
I love these yoke patterned sweaters and this is a particularly pretty one.

Thank you so much, you have come to my aid yet again, you are brilliant

I agree. It won’t be noticeable.
Also, if you want a bit more ease, you can increase stitches in the body. I usually do this in the side area ( or in the armpit, but you’ve already passed this point I think?

I ripped back to the white area, changed to 3.75. If I want to add extra sts, how many rows apart should I allow

You could add in 2-4sts at or near the underarm on each side, maybe a row or 2 after the underarm itself. If you need to add more sts, maybe 2sts after 4 rows. You don’t want this to blouse out too much by adding too many sts.
It may be possible or even preferable to go up to 4mm needles but it would be best to try that out in a small section or swatch before making the change all around the body.
