Gauge issue

I looked through several posts and can’t find an answer to this. If I knit a gauge swatch in one brand of DK weight and then decide to use another brand of DK, do I have to knit another swatch or just assume the gauge will basically be the same?

It’s probably a good idea to try out the yarn you’ll actually be using. If it’s a different fiber, it can knit up differently, sometimes to a different gauge. But you can always just start in with your item and measure the gauge after a few inches to make sure it’s the same. This is also a good idea even when matching gauge on the swatch; sometimes we loosen our tension when knitting a larger piece and that will change the size of it.

I would “assume” they would be different rather than assume they would be the same. Even the very same yarn in a different color can be a different gauge. All DK is not created equal.
