Hi all, just want to say that im soooo glad that i’ve found you all.
Ive been knitting for over a year now, mostly sock, mitts, hats, scarves, did make a sweater for myself & my dog Tess.
I am a total addict, i admit, i buy oodles of yarn & have no idea what i’ll do with it, i buy every book & magazine i can .
I have purchased some yarn that i wish to use in a sweater, but every pattern calls for a different “gauge” there must be a way to switch this/?? Any ideas???

how different is the gauge? can you double up the yarn or change the needles to get there?
Well i see many patterns that i love, but yeah, alot of them are wayyy of, others arent too bad…just dont want to start something & have it not fit…i hate unravelling…hehehe

That’s why it’s advised to do a gauge swatch first. If you have too many stitches per inch you can use a bigger needle. If you have too few stitches per inch, use a smaller needle.
I always try to get the right weight yarn that’s called for in a pattern and work from there. If you, however, have a thin yarn and want to use it on a pattern for thicker yarn, you can try doubling the yarn and see what your gauge is on that.
Again, i just bought the yarn on a wim, now im trying to find a pattern to use it in…and i see all kinds…i’ll try knitting a swatch, see how i go.

Ok, the pattern that i wish to make is made with Lopi, the gauge says the yarn knits 18sts & 25rows on 4.5mm needles.
My yarn is 12sts & 17rows on 7-8 needles…how can this be possible…hahaha…im sooo overwhelmed.
In the first stitch & b*&ch book it tells me a way to change the yarns, but wow…not easy…ahhhhhhhhh
