Well, its about time that I share my current project (or UFO as it were) with all of you. I am knitting a simple garter stitch scarf with lavender acrylic yarn. So far, I have about 4-6 inches of it done. I haven’t officially measured it so I am only eyeballing it. Its full length is going to be around 60 inches. Only 54 or so inches left to go!! :knitting:
Very pretty!
Excellent start. It’s going to be a great scarf. Projects like this are handy to work on between other things too. It’s always nice to have something going that’s easy to grab and work a few rows. Thanks for posting the photo.
I love the color; it matches the background in your avatar. I still have my first FO: a garter stitch scarf, too! It seemed like such a struggle at the time, but now I could whip it out w/ my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back (well, maybe not quite)! Just keep practicing and enjoying it because it gets easier!
It’s a wonderful beginning and in a very pretty color. Your garter stitch looks very nice as well. Enjoy knitting the rest of it.
i have a lovely book devoted to scarfs … love them so useful, well done a great beginning!
LOL!! Well, lilac (or any light purple) is my favorite color.
I guess its because when I was growing up in Ohio, we had these huge lilac bushes in the backyard. Sometimes we would snip off a cluster of blooms and bring it into the kitchen and it would give the whole room a sweet, fragrant smell. I miss those bushes a lot now, ever since we moved away from that house and into NC, way back in '97. Oddly enough, lilac bushes don’t grow well in a domestic setting here for some odd reason.
Looks like you’re off to a great start.
If you’re still fairly new to knitting and you’re concerned about making mistakes and correcting them, insert a lifeline at some point so you don’t have to start over at the beginning.
And most importantly, have fun knitting this lovely little scarf.
Very nice and a great color! I look forward to seeing it completed.
Your stitches are very uniform and look magnificent!
Garter stitch is very beautiful when all knitted up! It’s one of my personal favs!
Thanks. I think I have the hang of how to tension the yarn. The scarf is now roughly as long as my hand and wrist, which is 6 inches long. That means I am officially 1/10th or 10% done with it!!
Also, I love your screen name, Artlady!! :teehee:
That’s my name to about 33 years worth of customers and clients! I’ve sold art since 1980! He he. Whenever I call a prospective hostess or client, the kids may answer the phone…and I say, “Hi, this is Dollyce Beeman. Is your mom home?” and they promptly holler for their mom, “Hey, Mom! It’s the Artlady!”
So it kinda stuck. I almost gave up giving my name. Even if the husband answers the phone, I say “Hi Mr. Jones. Is Alissa home? This is the Artlady, Dollyce.”
Hence…the Artlady it is!
Wow. That’s quite a long time, I’ve only been making art for about half that long.
That really is such a pretty color, and your stitches are so even, I’m jealous! I’m still mastering tension. I have a tendency to pull too tight and then I have to stab my finger to try and work the first few stitches of the row off the needle, haha.
That’s going to be such a cute scarf wen you’re done. Glad to see another fan of long scarves! Are you going to add any fringe to it or anything after?
Yup, I am going to add tassles when the time comes. I am no where near doing that at the moment though.
Thanks for saying my stitches are so even.
I am really working at getting the right tension and I think I’ve gotten it down.
You’re going to be surprised at how quickly it’s gonna go by. I remember packing up my stuff after one knit session and wondering when it was I managed to pack three feet onto my needle. Are you going to do the fringe in lilac also, or a different color?
Between you and me, part of the reason I added fringe was so that I wouldn’t have to weave in my ends when I was done.
The fringe is going to be in lilac too.
You’re off to a great start, and it looks very good! I think you’ll find it will move along a little faster as get more practice.
Just wanted to give you all an update. I am officially halfway through!! I hit the 30 inch mark not more than 8 minutes ago! Its looking great! I can’t wait til its done and I can wear it.
Great! Glad you are back!
