I was wondering if anyone knew of any tips or tricks to avoid the gaps at the base of the fingers and thumb when knitting gloves. I know it is normal to have them, the directions even say to use yarn tails to close any gaps at the base of fingers and thumb, but I was hoping someone knew a way to avoid them in the first place.
I haven’t made gloves–too many fingers–but I’ve had good luck with mitten thumbs by picking up more stitches than they say to and knitting two together at the beginning and end.
I only recently made a glove, it was too small, but I found Ingrid is right. They never tell you to pick up enough stitches, so I just pick up as many as I see I can, and then decrease back down the number of stitches needed.
