I am starting on the the part of the sweater where I am supposed to separate the front of the work from the back. The back is to be worked flat separately first. So, as usual, the written words prove difficult for me to fathom how, exactly, this is supposed to work. I am attaching a photo of the first (left) sleeve stitches (17) on scrap yarn with the live yarn attached to the ball on my right knee. The second photo shows the instructions for the next part I am supposed to attempt. If I start knitting with that yarn on my right knee, I feel like I will be connecting a part of the sweater that is NOT supposed to be connected at this point. As usual, I am probably making this harder than necessary, but there you have it…
The pattern is not very well written here. You should knit over the 17sts before putting them on the scrap yarn. That way your working yarn would be in the correct place to work across the front set of sts.
The pattern does specify to work across the sts for the right underarm before putting them on hold.
Thank you so much! There is a lot to keep in mind with this project - when knitting flat, I have to pay attention to the second chart which LOOKS the same as the first one, except it has WS and RS rounds and the K and P stitches are represented the opposite on the WS rounds. Vey is mir. BUT, it’s good exercise for this 66 year old brain.
