Front? Back?

This may seem like a silly question, but where exactly is the front of the knitting? Where is the back?

I think your question also refers to right side (RS) or wrong side (WS).

If you are working stockinette the RS or front would be the knit side. If you’re working reverse stockinette the purl side would be the right side. Garter stitch is the same on both sides. Usually a pattern will specify which is the RS and which is the WS and you can mark it with a safety pin or piece of yarn so you know which side is which…

It doesn’t have anything to do with RS/WS. The front of the knitting is the side facing toward you as you work. It may be the WS if you’re doing a purl row in stockinette.

Thank you! That is what i need to know, because I was trying to figure out how to do a w&t and then I realized that i wasn’t 100% certain about where the front was. Thanks again!

If you’re starting out on short rows, you might want to take a look at these videos which seem to be a much neater way of doing them.
