From flat to round:Gull Stitch

So i’ve tried and umm…I keep getting the purl stitch on the RS and the knit stitch on the WS when I’m knitting in the round. What could I be possibly doing wrong?

Flat Gull stitch Pattern(just the first 3 rows)

RW 1 (right side): P1, K6,P1 rep from across

RW 2 (wrong side) : K1,P6, K1, rep from across

RW 3: P1, K2,yarn in back, sl nxt 2 sts as if to P, K2, P1, repeat from across

So my understanding of this is the pattern is written for flat and you are doing it in the round. If that is the case, then Row 2 should be exactly is the same as Row 1 in the round. The pattern is assuming that all of your even rows are “backwards” but in the round, they are all “forwards,” so you dont need to compensate by purling where you want knits on the right side.

If that is not the issue, and you are already doing that, one reason that your work in the round look like purls on the outside and knits on the inside even if you are doing knit stitches, if that your work is flipped inside out. In the round (all I know is English style, but I would assume continental is the same) your work should be at the bottom of your needles when you are holding them properly.

I agree, work R 2 the same as row 1. And flip your knitting inside out so the knits are on the outside, the working yarn is on the R needle and the tips are closer to you with the circle on the far side.

You’re right, it is written for a flat piece but I want to convert is to knitting in the round. So let me re-cap this:

So from my understanding, I should just knit the RS because after all my knitting Starts on the right side…DUH!!!

then 'll just continue the rest of the pattern as is right?

So do I just continue the rest of the pattern after doing row 1 twice?

Yes, knit row 3 as written, if row 4 is the same as 2, you knit that the same too.
