I made this up for Dotmom’s Chemo Kid KAL…

Knitpicks’ Shine (color, Apricot), 1 skein
Sz 5 Circular needle and DPNs
Gauge: 5 sts per inch

CO 360
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: K2tog around
Row 3: K2tog around
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: (K8, K2tog) around
Knit until work measures 4.5"
Next row: (K7, K2tog) around
Next row: Knit
Next row: (K6, K2tog) around
Next row: Knit
Next row: (K5, K2tog) around
Next row: Knit
Next row: (K4, K2tog) around
Next row: Knit
Next row: (K3, K2tog) around
Next row: Knit
Next row: (K2, K2tog) around
Next row: (K1, K2tog) around
Next row: K2tog around
Cut yarn, leaving 8" tail
Thread through remaining 9 sts and pull to close.
Weave in ends, enjoy!

it looks sorta like the flapper hat too! you could do an eyelet row a little ways up the hat and thread a ribbon through it. good way to resize the hat too if it is still just a little bit big for the head it is going on.

wouldn’t do that though if it is being used as a chemo cap though…ribbon would be too itchy.

Kelly, how long of a circ needle did you start it off with? At what point is it necessary to switch to the DPNs? Or did you do 2 circs?

Brendajos, I think I saw this sort of hat with the ribbon like you were describing somewhere on the free patterns page right here on KH. Can’t remember who designed it, but I’d say great minds must think alike. :slight_smile:

it is a lion brand pattern…it is called the flapper hat. super easy but keeping all those stitches on the needle to begin with is a bit of a pain! :shock:

here’s the one i did for my hat contest.

i must say that i LOVE how ruffly it is on the littler hat though. i may have to get out my hat makin’ stuff again if i ever finish this blasted project i am working on now! :wink:

I had to start off with a 24" circ…then moved to a 16" after all the k2togs… the DPN, well, that depends on when YOU become uncomfortable.
